Perfil somatotípico de velocistas de 400 metros rasos da equipe de atletismo masculina da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. 2019. 37f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Educação Física) – Departamento de Educação Física, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2019.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/48015Objective: To measure the anthropometric variables that determine the somatotype, to identify the components as mesomorph, endomorph and ectomorph and to classify the athletes according to the somatotype. Methods: A study was carried out with athletes of the men's athletics team in the modality 400 meters dash (n = 5) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. A total of 10 anthropometric measurements were performed according to the Heath & Carter Manual, 2002. Two of these measurements refer to height and body mass values. Four are for skinfolds, TR = tricipital, SI = Supraspinatus, SE = Subscapularis and PM = medial leg. Two for the diameters, DU = Diameter of the Humerus and DF = Diameter of the Femur. And the other two for perimeters, PB = Perimeter of right arm and PP = perimeter of right leg. The anthropometric data will be distributed in three Heath & Carter equations for the data corresponding to Endomorphy, Mesomorphy and Ectomorphy, in the somatotypic chart. Results: Athletes presented a mean age of 24.6 ± 7.03 years, mean height 167.74 ± 5.23 cm, mean body mass of 60.38 ± 7.65 kg. The endomorphic character has a mean score of 1.7, the mesomorphy presents 3.8, and the ectomorphy 2.8, according to Carter (1990), corresponds to the ectomorphic-mesomorphic profile in which the mesomorphism is dominant, and the ectomorphy is larger than the endomorphy. Conclusion: The population sample presented a 40% variation for the mesomorph-ectomorphic profile, 20% for the meso-endomorphic profile, 20% for the balanced Ectomorph profile and 20% for the meso-ectomorphic profile, yet the profile meso-ectomorphic was the profile that best characterizes the sprinter. Such variation of the somatotypes may be justified by the non-homogeneity of the variables age 24.6 ± 7.03, height167.74 ± 5.23 and body mass 60.38 ± 7.65. The findings of this study behave in accordance with most studies investigated on the same theme and with the international scenario of elite athletes.
