This is a problem that perpetrates the space of school and has consequences for society as a whole. Talking and reflecting on this phenomenon is important for the creation of a preventive and confrontational culture, as well as raising awareness of the entire educational community. In this article we have an initial discussion about the phenomenon of bullying, the origin of the term, the first studies outside and within Brazil, its consequences and characters involved. Some data from IBGE's research on school health involving this type of violence are collected. The goal is to reflect some paths to prevention and bullying from the example of some intervention projects developed in educational institutions in Brazil.
