Museums and science centers are considered to be Non-Formal Teaching Spaces (NFTS) that can contribute to Education for Sustainable Development, promoting scientific communication on issues related to current demands. Based on this information, this investigation aimed to characterize the promotion of Education for Sustainable Development proposed in educational documents and activities in two non-formal teaching spaces at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and one at the University of Coimbra -PT, having as analysis guide the communication of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).The methodological path took place in three moments, literature review, document analysis and field research. The data were analyzed through content analysis, however, using different techniques.Through the results it was possible to conclude that the Sustainable Development Goals are included in the official discourse and the educational practices of the three institutions analyzed, although there are some SDGs that are neglected. It was noted that there are difficulties in inserting some SDGs due to greater difficulties related to the complexity of the sustainability concept, training in SDS, interdisciplinary work as well as promoting actions for a diverse audience. It was noted that, although the most effective communicative element for communicating the SDGs is monitoring, what draws the most attention from visitors are the artifacts and museum environments, which leads to further exploration of these communicative resources. However, it is necessary to appreciate the use of subtitles and texts to assist and complement the museal narrativeAcesso AbertoObjetivos de desenvolvimento sustentávelMuseuComunicação científicaSustainable development goalsMuseumScience communicationEducação para sustentabilidade em espaços não formais de ensino da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte e da Universidade de CoimbramasterThesis
