This study aimed to identify the most frequently used sources by parents of preterm children when seeking health-related information. It is a cross-sectional observational study with a qualitative approach, conducted between February and September 2024 in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine mothers of preterm children under two years old, both in person and via Google Meet. The interviews addressed the use of the child health record, engagement with social media, and verification of information found online. Data were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively using SPSS® 22.0 and Bardin's content analysis. The results indicated that mothers primarily used the child health record for tracking vaccinations and medical appointments, while the internet—particularly Google, Instagram, and YouTube—was frequently accessed to clarify doubts. However, skepticism about the reliability of online information was evident, with most participants seeking validation from healthcare professionals. The study revealed that parents of preterm children mainly rely on the child’s health record and the internet, with Google and Instagram standing out as key sources. However, the health record is used in a limited manner, focusing on vaccinations and consultations, whereas digital content, despite its accessibility, requires professional validation due to concerns about its reliability.
