In assumption that as a paid employee, a social worker professional is not immune of society transformation and its implications over the working class, among them it is the precariousness. Taking as the research place the federal institutions of education (IFEs) of Natal/RN, this work will analyze the determinant factors and the forms through which the precariousness express itself in the professional educational work, in the context of amplification of the occupational space in the students assistance. Based on the dialectical critical method, sought to problematize, from the expansion of college education in Brazil, noticeably since the first decade of the 21st century, the elements that contributed for the extension of the professional market and the conditions under which this extension have been materialized. As a way of supporting the theoretical methodological analysis, a field research was held through semi-structured interviews with social workers in the federal institutions, a bibliographic review that followed all the process of this study; and the documentary research that included, among other things, the analysis of documents related to the researched institutions. The reflections allowed us to learn that although stored specificities the work of a social worker in the federal institutions is crossed with precariousness which becomes structural in the modern capitalism, expressing itself in these spaces, among other things, in the overload, in the increase of rhythm and intensity of work, in the extension of work hours and in the demand of instant results; still suffering the refutations of the student assistance as a focused and selective policy. Trespassing the professional work reflects not only on the development of activities, but also on the social workers themselves, creating besides of physical and mental, wear their illness.
