Acesso em 19 ago. 2020.2238-9059https://repositorio.ufrn.br/jspui/handle/123456789/29867This work is part of the activities carried out by the research project “Song lyric translation from Brazilian Popular Music and Anglo-American Popular Music: theoretical and practical aspects” (PROPESQ-UFRN), which started off in 2017. In its present phase, the project focuses on the works of Noel Rosa (1910-1937) and Robert Johnson (1911-1938), respectively pioneers of the samba and of the blues. After a brief explanation about the project and about the importance of Noel Rosa for Brazilian Popular Music, we propose an annotated translation of “Fita Amarela”, one of his most famous tracks. The translation process was based on Peter Low (2017), who puts forward five criteria for song lyric translation: rhythm, sense, singability, naturalness and rhymes.
