Fifty-four Santa Inês lambs were used, of similar age, born with an average weight of 3,750kg, from the experimental herd of the UFRN Sheep Teaching and Research Laboratory. The lambs were weighed every seven days, from birth until weaning, carried out at 84 days of life, making it possible to calculate the average daily and total weight gain during the breeding phase, as well as obtaining the average weight at weaning. Once weaned, the animals began to receive specific concentrate for the finishing phase. For the purpose of comparing costs, a hypothetical scenario was considered in which animals that did not have access to creep-feeding were weaned with an average body weight of 14 kg and the same daily cost with supplementation and the same performance (130g/ day) in the finishing phase. The treatments were managed in a similar way regarding nutrition in the finishing phase, the goal of which was to reach a body weight of 30 kg. The animals were separated at 84 days of life, with a difference of 5 kg between the groups at the end of the breeding phase, with 19 kg being the average body weight of the group that had access to the creep. Evaluating the cost of supplementation per animal in the finishing phase, it is possible to notice a difference in the value per head, highlighting the importance of the need to offer solid food as soon as possible. Therefore, it is concluded that providing the concentrate to lambs managed in a pastoral environment via creep-feeding is a viable nutritional strategy for pasture-based sheep meat production systems, which is why its use is recommended.Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/br/BioeconimidadeDesmame precoceSanta InêsCocho privativoBioeconomyEarly weaningPrivate troughCreep-feeding na produção de carne ovina a pasto: vale a pena?Creep-feeding in grass-fed sheep production: is it worth it?bachelorThesis
