The nurses, regarding the development of activities inside the hospital, are exposed to the impairment of their work capacity due to the complexity and volume of developed operations inside an unhealthy environment not only on a material sense but also subjective. Therefore, this study is about the theme: worker’s health, focusing on the nursing team’s health and has as purpose to evaluate the nurse’s work capacity of an academic hospital. It is about a descriptive, transversal study with a quantitative approach, involving 135 nurses of the academic hospital, Onofre Lopes, accomplished upon assent from the Committee of Ethics in Research of Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte under number 1.845.951/16, covering what is written on the Resolution nº 466/2012 from the National Health Council that regulates research on human beings. The data gathering occurred on the month of November of 2016, using a survey with two stages as instrument to gather the data, one with general data of the interviewed and another on a Brazilian version of the work capacity’s index made by the Institute of Occupational Health of Finland, translated and adapted by researchers from the Faculty of Public Health from São Carlos University. The database was constructed using Excel, version 2010, to the descriptive chart’s fulfilment. And, for the applications of statistical tests (Alpha Cronbach’s and Chi-Square test), the software Statistica was used SPSS, version 20.0. Among the findings it was observed that between the population of nurses that were part of the research, adults with up to 40 years (88.15%), female (81.48%), married (47.41%), with post-graduation (93.33%) were predominant. An ICT’s average score of 40.24 was found. Most of the research’s nurses had got an adequate ICT (81.48%), with a grade of good or great and on 18.52% had got and inadequate ICT (low or moderate). Only one independent variable showed evidence of statistical difference that was the satisfaction with the salary, other characteristics turn up to be biased such as age, formation and bond time.
