Thus, this article aims to discuss the process of teaching and learning and provide educational strategies that are able to stimulate the child's interest by mathematical knowledge in the early years of elementary school. It gives a brief overview of the history of mathematics and its intrinsic relationship to the development of society, highlighting the trajectory of its insertion in the Brazilian school curriculum.
