This qualitative research (Denzin e Lincoln, 2006), based on a bibliographic approach (Gil, 2008), investigates the relationship between students, from public elementary and high schools, and the English language. The research aims to answer the following questions: “How do public school students relate to the English language?” and “What are the main difficulties students face in the English language subject?” By exploring these questions, the study aims to identify the main barriers and challenges faced by students, as well as to highlight their level of interest in the subject, to contribute to the improvement of teaching strategies and educational outcomes in the field of English language teaching.
