Being a gear coupling (German-made) originally fitted to the vessel's propulsion system, which presented high costs for operation maintenance and repair, as well as the requirement of qualified personnel for maintenance. Calculations, analyses and study of the data obtained between the types of connecting elements were carried out considering the characteristics of the connection and transmission of the rotary movement of the motor-reverser assembly in order to characterize and classify the suitable blade coupling as a substitute element for the gear coupling. After the replacement, the importance of the relationship between material management and maintenance planning to minimize the costs of acquisition and maintenance of the motion transmission element became evidente.
