When associated with products considered “natural” to boost sales, this facility is widely exploited in various media, using appealing advertisements that seek to attract consumers. The “Infinity 12” product is an example of this, standing out for its high sales volume. It is promoted as an herbal medicine for “chronic pain”, with a supposedly “natural” composition of plants with medicinal properties. The Pharmacognosy Laboratory of the Pharmacy Department at UFRN purchased several batches of Infinity 12 from different websites to analyze the contents of the capsules. The product label indicated the following components: oyster calcium, dolomite, cinnamon, horse chestnut and leather hat. This study aimed to evaluate the capsules contents for the presence of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). To confirm the results of the thin-layer chromatography analysis, the products were also subjected to ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with a high-resolution mass spectrometer. In addition to the Infinity 12 samples, paracetamol, diclofenac, salicylic acid, ibuprofen, and piroxicam standards were analyzed for comparison. Thin layer chromatography revealed similar staining zones and Rf in the chromatographic profile of the different Infinity 12 compared to diclofenac sodium, ibuprofen, piroxicam and paracetamol. The comparison between the sample and the reference standard, both in terms of retention time and peak mass spectra, revealed the presence of piroxicam in some samples of the product marketed. It was concluded that all the samples of Infinity 12 analyzed were adulterated, containing synthetic substances not declared on the label, which can lead to various health risks for consumers.Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/br/Produto naturalProduto adulteradoAINEsControle de qualidadePropagandas enganosasAnálise de diferentes lotes do produto Infinity 12 adquirido por meio do mercado digitalAnalysis of different batches of the Infinity 12 product acquired through the digital marketbachelorThesisCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE
