Method: This is a narrative review of scientific literature, developed in five stages: definition of the research topic; establishment of inclusion and exclusion criteria for bibliographic material; searches in the chosen databases; reading of the selected articles; interpretation and synthesis of the results. Results: A total of 4,816 articles were previously selected from the chosen databases, of which 18 were selected for inclusion in the study. Some studies have shown that family farmers encounter difficulties related to documentation and the lack of capacity to meet the entire demand for food supply. The participation of nutritionists in the process of purchasing food from Family Farming is essential, with emphasis on the studies consulted, their role in the stages of preparing public calls for food acquisition, planning and preparing menus that will be offered in food services. The articles found with the search performed referred to studies on food purchases from Family Farming for public schools through the National School Feeding Program. No studies were found on the role of nutritionists in purchasing food from Family Farming food services such as hospitals, popular restaurants, military institutions and others, via the Food Acquisition Program. Conclusion: Nutritionists play an important role in preparing menus and in the food purchasing process for households.
