There is a poor distribution in the workforce of general surgeons, causing difficulties to many patients, mainly from areas far from large centers, to have access to surgical treatment of basic pathologies. Although there is great interest in providing training for surgical residents who are interested in practicing in a rural setting, the guidelines for creating a curriculum are non-existent in Brazil. The Multicampi School of Medical Sciences of the RN was created in order to establish professionals within the State and decentralization of medical training. With the objective of implanting a medical residency program in general surgery, with rural characteristics, we performed an analysis in the surgeries database at the Currais Novos Regional Hospital, which is a 99-bed hospital located in the Seridó region of Rio Grande do Norte from January 2015 to January 2017, where we cataloged 3815 surgeries And divided into general surgery, gynecology-obstetrics, urological, thoracic and orthopedic surgery.
