The use and disposal of this material at the end of its life, harms the environment. In order to reduce environmental damage, dry cutting techniques have been employed in some machining operations. This work aims to develop self-lubricating cutting tools for machining, and its application in dry machining operations. The tools will be produced through the technique Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS), which has the characteristics of consolidating powder structures through the simultaneous application of pressure and temperature. The solid lubricants studied to insert self-lubricating characteristics in the tools were Molybdenum Disulphide (MoS2) and Graphite (C). Samples with different compositions were sintered in a cylindrical format to investigate the effect of adding solid lubricants on their properties of hardness, compressive strength and wear resistance. The compositions with the best results were selected for a second stage, the sintering of cutting tools with commercial geometry. The compositions with MoS2 did not stand out in the initial characterizations, and were not selected for the second stage. With the results, tools with SNGN 12 04 12 geometry were manufactured composed of WC - 10% Co and Graphite. and then were evaluated in dry turning tests.
