In the city of Assú/RN, the historical-architectural ensemble faces threats due to the lack of conservation actions. In this context, this research aims to develop a proposal for architectural requalification with contemporary solutions for a historic building. The study focuses on the historic center of Assú, specifically the building of the 11th Regional Directorate of Education and Culture (DIREC). The relevance of this work lies in the necessity to preserve the city’s heritage and the lack of effective conservation actions. The methodology includes a bibliographic review, field research, project analysis, and the development of a requalification proposal. Finally, the last stage of the study consisted of developing a preliminary project for architectural requalification, encompassing both the revitalization of the existing historic building and the inclusion of a contemporary annex, designed to meet the demands of the functional program. The proposed interventions follow the principles of architectural restoration and aim to adapt the building for use as the Popular Museum of Education and Culture, the Educational Technology Center, and the administrative activities of the 11th DIREC. Additionally, considering the challenges of intervening in heritage buildings, a brief complementary urban intervention was proposed, including the expansion of the sidewalk and the relocation of the adjacent motorcycle taxi stand.
