Monografia (Graduação em Serviço Social) - Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Centro de Ciências Sociais Aplicadas, Departamento de Serviço Social, Natal, RN, 2019.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/36519The present study has the purpose of studying the inclusion of people with disabilities at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), from which we aim to analyze the adoption, at UFRN, of affirmative action policy based on the reservation of vacancies defined by Law nº 12.711/2012 (Law of Quotas) and Law 13.409/2016, with the opening of places for people with disabilities, analyzing it as an achievement of the rights of persons with disabilities and the contradictions inherent in their implementation within the framework of capitalist sociability in the contemporary context of UFRN. For the development of this analysis, the specific objectives are: to understand the particularities in the process of institutionalization of education in capitalist society; to analyze the implementation in the UFRN of the affirmative action policy based on the reserve of vacancies defined by Law 12.711/2012 (Law of Quotas) and Law 13.409/2016 with the opening of vacancies for persons with disabilities; to understand the work process of the Comissão de Apoio a Estudantes com Necessidades Educacionais Especiais (CAENE) and its work with the students in the two years of adoption and execution of Law 13.409/2016; and to understand the interlocution between CAENE and Pró-Reitoria de Assuntos Estudantis (PROAE), highlighting the advances and challenges and their importance for the permanence of undergraduate students. The methodology was based on the bibliographic, documentary and quantitative data regarding the students of the institution. And we verified through the analysis that, despite UFRN offering institutional support, the dropout rate and suspension of the program of students who entered through quotas for people with disabilities is still high.
