In this sense, a correct classification of the disease allows for appropriate treatment and the definition of screening and early diagnosis strategies with an interprofessional approach in primary care for other associated chronic complications, as well as the need for referral to secondary care. The aim of this study was to draw up and validate a flowchart to support decision-making in the screening and diagnosis of diabetic patients in primary care, allowing for adequate dental follow-up. The first stage consisted of surveying the actors responsible, i.e. mapping the professionals trained for the flow. In the second stage, an integrative literature review was carried out, in which the main publications on the relationship between diabetes mellitus and other chronic conditions were analyzed, in order to consolidate the data for constructing the flowchart. In the third stage, the structure for developing and implementing the flowchart was defined, with subsequent validation. As a result of the evaluation of the flowchart, it was found that the majority of respondents strongly agreed with its scientific accuracy (60%), organization (95%) and the relevance of the illustrations to facilitate understanding and direct the flowchart (95%). The content was also widely considered useful for guiding diabetic patients (90%). However, the size and type of font generated more divided opinions, with 40% agreeing a lot and 40% a little, while 20% expressed some degree of disagreement.
