The present study has as main problematic the waste of water in buildings due to the scarcity of this resource at a global level and the low level of awareness for the rational use of the product. It seeks to answer how a community museum can contribute to raising awareness of the water problematic and, furthermore, how the economy of this resource can be inserted in construction systems. The report presents a proposal for the architectural design of the Ecomuseum of water, located in the Lagoa do Jiqui area, in Parnamirim, Rio Grande do Norte, with an emphasis on the rational use of water resources. The site is representative for the proposal of an ecomuseum that encourages community awareness of the problem, as it is one of the main sources of supply for the city of Natal, in a scenario of degradation of water springs. The specific objectives of the project are to develop a program with adequate spaces for environmental education activities, to present project solutions for the rational use of water in buildings, as well as to propose the use of passive and extensive systems for sewage treatment. The theoretical framework is based on the new museology as the conception and configuration of the ecomuseum, reference in Varine (1992), Brulon (2015); the importance of water and sanitation as a human right (HELLER, 2022) and water security in Natal/RN, based on Moretti and Tinoco (2022). And, also, solutions for the rational use of water in buildings. The methodology includes a bibliographic survey and identification of studies of project references indirectly (correlated projects) and directly (visit to the Cais do Sertão Museum, in Recife/PE) and bioclimatic studies. The proposal is for a building with a hybrid construction system (concrete and engineered wood), with a biophilic design, consisting of green areas and natural lighting between the open spaces for permanent and temporary exhibitions, with wide circulation and visibility with the surroundings in a way to integrate it into the existing space and local reality. The solutions for the rational use of water adopted in capturing rainwater through the green and metallic roofs point to a substantial saving of potable water in the building, as the use of rainwater for non-potable use is around 60%. The system represented by the constructed wetlands, which allows the reuse of gray and black water in the landscaping of the ecomuseum, and the permeable parking lot as a way of recharging the water table, complete a cycle of sustainability on the theme of water. The proposal for community involvement with the issue includes a set of educational actions connected to scientific work and access to the adopted constructive solutions.
