The HMB perform as a specialized service, responsible for actions to promote, protect and support breastfeeding and carry out activities to collect the milk production of the nursing mother, its processing, quality control and distribution, governed by the Resolution of the Collegiate Board of Directors n 171/2006 of the National Health Surveillance Agency. It is the responsibility of the HMB registry as steps in the work process. In view of the importance of the actions performed by the HMB, the need to manage the quality of work processes is emphasized, through studies that strive for quality improvement. Objective: To evaluate the work processes in a Human Milk Bank (HMB) before and after the completion of a quality improvement cycle. Method: This is a qualitative study, with a quasi-experimental design of the type before and after the completion of a cycle of public improvement at the HMB of Maternidade Escola Januário Cicco, an institution that integrates the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, located in the municipality of Natal-RN. Results: An operational protocol was prepared for the service, as well as computerized consultations and an electronic donor registration system and donations of expressed human milk were implemented. 9 quality criteria were built, based on RDC 171, of which 4 were measured. The results obtained with the assessment of the level of compliance with the criteria before and after the interventions and the statistical significance were presented using graphical methods.
