It can trigger severe complications, especially because it is associated with other clinical conditions such as insulin resistance, oxidative stress and other illnesses related to metabolic syndrome. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the oxidant/antioxidant markers that could be altered in the patients with NAFLD through a literature review. To achieve this goal, PubMed, SciELO and ScienceDirect databases were used. The initial search, using the following descriptors: “NAFLD” AND “GR”, “NAFLD” AND “glutathione reductase”, “NAFLD” AND “MDA”, “NAFLD” AND “malondialdehyde”, “NAFLD” AND “GPX”, “NAFLD” AND “glutathione peroxidase”, “NAFLD” AND “GSH”, “NAFLD” AND “reduced glutathione”, “NAFLD” AND “SOD”, “NAFLD” AND “superoxide dismutase”, “NAFLD” AND “CAT” , “NAFLD” AND “catalase” and “NAFLD” AND “oxidative stress”, yielded 5840 articles. After reviewing the title, summary, and full text of the articles, and additionally screening the references cited in the selected articles, three articles were included in the present study.
