Taking this into consideration, this work aims to construct a corpus of verbs with Implicit Consequentiality tendencies of the Brazilian Portuguese language (BP) by questioning how this phenomenon can impact linguistic production. The Implicit Consequentiality can be defined as a semantical content contained in specific verbs that allows the speaker to infer in a unconsciously manner the consequence of the event represented by the verb (Crinean, Garnham, 2006; Garnham, Vorthmann e Kaplanova, 2020). This consequence inferred by the speaker can be pointed to the Subject (Nominal Group 1) or to the Object (Nominal Group 2) depending on the Implicit Consequentiality verb that structures the sentence. From this, we outline the general objective build a corpus of interpersonal verbs of Implicit Consequentiality of BP. Additionally, we also identify to which extent factors like semantic role, gender and emotional valence affect linguistic production in consequential contexts based theoretical on the experimental work of Garnham, Vorthmann e Kaplanova (2020) and we followed the categorization of semantic roles of interpersonal verbs Ruldoph’s proposal (1997). Thus, we adopted the methods of psycholinguistics and conducted two experiments in order to achieve the objectives set . The first experiment is an evaluation of emotional valence that provides metrics of emotional valence to the verbs used in the second experiment. The second experiment is the sentence completion in which the Consequentiality phenomenon is specifically investigated. In the sentence completion experiment we sought to verify if the tendencies of Implicit Consequentiality manifests themselves in BP. Our experimental hypothesis were: i) regarding semantic roles, we expect that the roles of AgentPatient, Agent-Evocator and Stimulus-Experiencer would point the consequence to Nominal Group 2 and the Stimulus-Experiencer would point the consequence to Nominal Group 1; ii) regarding gender relations, we expect that the male protagonists would be selected with a higher frequency as a consequence of the events in detriment of female protagonists and that men and women would use different strategies to attribute consequentiality; iii) for emotional valence, we estimate that differences in the consequential attribution could be modulated by the event valence (degree of positivity and degree of negativity). Our results confirm the tendencies of Consequentiality of verbs both for the Nominal Group 1 and Nominal Group 2. On semantic roles, our results show that they interact significantly on the choice of the consequential referent. Concerning gender, results show that there is an effect of the sentence's subject on the choice of the referent taken as a consequence of the event portrayed by the verb; however, the research participant’s gender did not show significant effects. In conclusion, regarding the emotional valence, we did not find any significant effects when verifying the interaction of emotional valence with other selected factors for this work.
