The hypothesis put forward is that the skills of reading and textual production, when carried out in an interdisciplinary way, is one of the aspects that can prevent school failure, since it provides a better understanding of the world. In this research, we ask: What is the role of the practices of reading and textual production for the exercise of full citizenship of students in a class in the fourth grade of elementary school, the Escola Estadual João Onofre, located in the municipality of Lucretia, state Large northern river? The strategies used by the teacher of the class provide students the opportunity to develop reading skills and textual production? The teacher uses these strategies in an interdisciplinary way? Students demonstrate advances in the development of reading skills and textual production? For the construction of this work was used as the main interlocutors, the following authors: Farm (1991 and 2008) and Freire (2004), Smith (1999), in addition to the National Curriculum Parameters Portuguese - early years of elementary school. Also used observations and experiences of on-site.
