To evaluate the quality of prevention and management practices for skin lesions in newborns in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a teaching maternity hospital. Descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative study, carried out in a reference maternity hospital for high-risk care. The sample corresponded to 60 newborns from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the unit's multidisciplinary team. Quality criteria were constructed to measure the conformity of the items. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Pareto diagram was used to highlight intervention priorities. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Januário Cicco Maternity School. Better compliance rates were observed in the criteria related to the nurse's record, per work shift, the assessment of the skin condition of newborns (96.7%), the use of emollients when removing medical adhesives by the nursing team and physiotherapists (83.3%) and daily recording of risk assessment of skin lesions in newborns, with 60%. The criteria related to structure presented rates of 0%.
