This study evaluated the implementation of a formalin production plant from methanol, using Aspen HYSYS® to simulate and optimize the process. The equipment design parameters, safety systems, and economic feasibility of the project were determined. The plant, with a capacity to process 19,720 tons of methanol per year, presented a Net Present Value (NPV) of 4.782 million reais, indicating profitability. Despite negative cash flows in the first three years, the plant will start generating profits in the 13th year of operation.
