In mammals the cochlear nucleus is seen as one of the main complexes present in the auditory pathway. It is located dorsolaterally to the inferior cerebellar peduncles and is functionally divided into ventral portion (NCV) and dorsal portion (NCD). They are tonotopically organized, perform the first stage of the central auditory process, and project fibers into the upper auditory areas. The present study aims to verify if there is a labeling of calcium binding proteins calbidine (CB), calretinin (CR) and (PV) in the different portions of the cochlear nucleus of the bat Artibeus planirostris. Five adult male bats of the species Artibeus planirostris (Chiroptera, Phyllostomidae) were authored by the Committee on Ethics in the Use of Animals (CEUA) UFRN, protocol no. 009/2012. The animals were anesthetized, perfused by the transcardiac route and had their brains removed. Coronary sections of the frozen bats were obtained by sliding microtome and submitted to Nissl staining and immunohistochemical reaction for CB, CR and PV. From the analysis of the distribution of calcium binding proteins and cytoarchitecture, it was possible to verify that the cochlear complex is subdivided into the antero-ventral, posterolateral and dorsal portions. Immunoreactive neurons were found in all portions of CB, CR and PV.
