However, it is still necessary to analyze the motor control of upper limb function and assess what differences may occur between patients and healthy individuals. Objective: Perform a kinematic analysis of the shoulder and elbow in the activity of drinking water, in order to assess the implications for neurological rehabilitation of stroke patients. Methodology: The study included 18 chronic stroke patients (9 with right hemiparesis and 9 with left hemiparesis) and 18 healthy individuals (9 used the right upper limb and 9 used the left upper limb), who performed the activity of drinking water in a sitting position, including reaching for and picking up a glass, bringing it to your mouth, returning the glass to the table and returning to the starting position. The kinematic evaluation was performed by the Qualisys system. Statistical analysis was performed using Pearson's correlation test. Results: In the analysis of the patients, there was a significant positive correlation between the shoulder and the elbow, from frame 66 to frame 101 (p value between 0.045 and 0.003). There was a difference in the analysis of dispersion of the angles of the shoulder and elbow joints between frames 66 to 101 between patients and healthy individuals. In the comparative visual assessment of the complete kinematics of the task of drinking water from a patient and a healthy individual, there was a similarity in the trajectory of the shoulder and elbow joints between them. Conclusion: The results showed an atypical pattern between patients and healthy individuals evidenced by a coupling of the shoulder angle with the elbow. This pattern was demonstrated from the positive correlation between the shoulder and elbow joints, the difference between the dispersion amplitude, as well as from the analysis of the trajectory, which can influence the direction of therapeutic proposals for stroke patients.
