For a good night of sleep, rituals should be included on day-to-day basis, thus making it easier children’s understanding about bedtime. Parents are models to children, even about sleep. Thus, family routines will influence the development of good or bad sleep habits on children. Some studies show daytime sleepiness on kindergarten children and, in addition, some families with lower income and educational levels presents more sleep problems in their children. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate relationships between sleep rituals before bedtime and temporal sleep patterns in school-aged children and the parental economical and educational levels. Participated of study, 32 children, aged 4 to 6 years old, studying in the afternoon shift in schools of Natal/RN. Data were collected from questionnaires answered by parents during the week and on weekends. Daytime sleepiness was assessed by asking the children how they were feeling during classes. The scale proposed by Maldonado et al. (2004) and adapted by Belísio (2014) was used. The parents reported to practice rituals before bedtime with their children in all economical and educational levels. The most reported sleep habits before bedtime were to drink milk, to go to the bathroom, to need a parent in the bedroom and to need an object to sleep. However, it was observed higher frequencies of sleeping with the lights on in lower economical (class C) and schooling (level 3) levels, when compared to the other levels. This behavior is characterized as a bad sleep habit, since it brings impairments to sleep. In relation to sleep-wake patterns, the greatest irregularity on time in bed, characterized by a smaller time in bed on weekend, was observed in higher economical level. From these results, we suggest that good sleep habits in school-aged children varies according to familial context they live in. We also suggest that future research evaluates if parents know the importance of sleep to their children healthy development.Padrões de sonoSleep patternsEnsino infantilKindergartenClasse econômicaSocioeconomical levelsHábitos de sono em crianças do ensino infantil: uma análise da escolaridade e classe econômica dos paisbachelorThesis
