Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2019.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/43221Multiple myeloma is a malignant tumor of clonal plasma cells in the medullary microenvironment, that can most often lead to, secretion of monoclonal immunoglobulins, bone pain, kidney disease, anemia, hypercalcemia and infections. The disease begins, mainly, by mutations occurring at the time of antibody class change in a T-dependent immune response, which involves both B cell and CD4 T cell, which interact and cause differentiation of this B lymphocyte into plasmocytes to oppose a particular antigen in a more specific response. Being responsible for, approximately, 1% of neoplastic diseases worldwide, multiple myeloma is treated with drug therapy and chemotherapy, involving drugs such as dexamethasone, thalidomide and bortezomib or even autologous bone marrow transplantation, always considering the patient's quality of life. Cellular and biochemical alterations resulting from this neoplasia can be reflected/evidenced in several laboratory and image tests, which thus, become useful as diagnostic and/or disease monitoring tools, such as: blood count, calcium biochemical measurements, lactate dehydrogenase, urea and creatinine, biopsy, myelogram, serum and urine protein electrophoresis, urine Bence-Jones protein research, magnetic resonance imaging, x-ray, tomography, among other tests that diagnose, evidence and monitor myeloma.
