Society has decreased consumptio organic products as a matter of priority and has started to consume industrialized products, which take raw materials from nature and take too long to decompose, generating large volumes of waste. Glass, plastic, metals, rubber, paper and other materials accumulated and mistakenly disposed of in the environment show an exaggerated consumption, the culture of waste, the misuse of natural resources and the false certainty that these resources are endless. Knowing the waste produced and recognizing its misuse can be the beginning of a positive cultural change in waste treatment to optimize the use of processed materials and natural resources, providing savings and better condition of the environment in which we live. This study aims to analyze the waste generated in a residential condominium in Natal-RN and propose improvements for the proper management of solid waste and conscious consumption of residents in order to achieve a healthy and responsible environment, from the point of view of waste generation. Therefore, the waste generated in one of the blocks of the Bairro Latino Residential Condominium, in Natal, was fully analyzed for two weeks. The study showed that 71.35% of the waste generated is organic, followed by non-recyclable waste with 11.05% and plastics with 7.95% of the total collected. The high percentage of organic waste indicates that residents do not make conscious use of food and that this waste could be better utilized by reducing this volume. Another relevant factor is that of the percentage of flexible plastics, 63% come from grocery bags and the other 37% are plastic packaging of processed products, especially food. Thus it is clear that the waste generated could have a much smaller volume, if the products were used responsibly in their entirety. The lack of information and commitment to waste management actions reduce the chances of materials being recycled, since their integrity is compromised in the disposal, preventing in its recycling. Therefore, it is important to guide and encourage residents to contribute to a more sustainable residential environment in order to have not only environmental but also financial return on their consumer lifestyle.Análise de resíduosWaste analysisGestão de RSUConsumo conscienteUSW Management;Conscious consumptionAnálise gravimétrica dos resíduos domiciliares de unidades habitacionais de pequeno porte na cidade de Natal - RNbachelorThesis
