Thus, the main objective of this study was to identify the practices of innovation in enterprises of the tourism supply chain in the city of Tibau do Sul/RN. To achieve this the following specific objectives were defined: characterize the tourism production chain of Tibau do Sul; identify the forms of innovation in enterprises within the tourism production chain in the city; identify factors related to the type and level of innovation; describe the environment in relation to innovation and situate the innovation in enterprises in the productive chain of tourism in Tibau do Sul in light of the existing relevant literature. Thirty companies were investigated, belonging to: travel and tourism agencies, restaurants, lodging, leisure and entertainment, transportation and a tourism consultancy. The present study was characterized as descriptive and exploratory, applying qualitative and quantitative approaches, applied through literature, field and documents' research and analyses. The quantitative techniques used were: frequencies, mean, percentages, cluster analysis, correlation, ANOVA, T-Test and the nonparametric technique of Kruskal Wallis. The survey results indicated that: it was not possible to accurately identify the size and characteristics of the activity's segments belonging to the tourism production chain of Tibau do Sul; the entrepreneurs consider themselves relatively more innovative with respect to the products, services, management and the overall innovation performance when compared to local competitors, through practices mainly related to product innovation; the segment that was most innovative in products was tourism and travel agencies, in management was lodging and in service and overall performance of the innovation was the tourism consultancy; several factors, such as time in which the business is in operation time, age of the respondent and market participation are related to the level and type of innovation; in general, the entrepreneurs intend to invest in some kind of innovation within the next years and have interest in the subject of innovation; it was possible to identify a relationship between applications by the participants in the research and the concepts of innovation presented in the literature.
