Evaporation was estimated by the Jensen-Haise empirical method and the results showed that, on average, the annual evaporation corresponds to approximately 45% of the maximum volume of the reservoir studied. Simulations were carried out to evaluate the time of emptying of the reservoir against a period of severe drought, considering different scenarios of initial reservoir volume. The results showed that the reservoir takes about 4 years and 4 months to dry completely, when the simulation starts with 100% of the maximum capacity and that the water level is dry at 2 years and 11 months for 50% of the volume of the reservoir. The evaporation in the Encanto reservoir is high and consumes a great part of the stored water, it was also observed underutilization of the reservoir, because the water consumption corresponds to small values, when compared with the evaporated volumes.
