Therefore, the stud consists of the result of theoretical analyses and reflections, in addition to an empirical approach carried out with social workers from the Basic Health Units (BHU) of the municipality of Mossoró/RN, about professional work in the territories of PHC. As a level of health care, Primary Care is responsible for health services and actions related to promotion, protection, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, etc. The implementation of these services revolves around the constitution of different territories, whether in a region or municipality, which express social health needs, according to each health reality. In this logic, the territory is a category that has centrality for professional work in Primary Care, including for the work of social workers who are included in this level of health care. Based on this, we undertook this dissertation with the following problem in mind: how is the professional work of social workers expressed and developed in the territories of the Basic Health Units in the municipality of Mossoró/RN? In the search for answers to this research problem, our study was methodologically developed through bibliographic, documental and field research, with a qualitative character, based on the historical-dialectical materialism. The study population was represented by fifteen social workers, all female, who work in the BHU in the urban area of Mossoró. The participation of the professionals in the study happened in two stages. In the first stage, all fifteen social workers participated by answering a questionnaire built via google forms. For the second stage, a semi-structured interview, five social workers participated, invited via non-probabilistic intentional sampling according to the answers given to the questionnaire and also according to the loco-regional division of each administrative health zone in the municipality. The data analysis happened via content analysis technique and were exposed in the course of writing this dissertation. The results of our research revealed that the work of social workers in the territories is made possible in some realities of the municipality’s PHC and in others, not. The social workers participating in this study recognize the territory as an important element for their work in PHC and seek, depending on the context, to objectify it in accordance with the particularities arising from the territories. We emphasize, in this sequence, the existence of different expressions of the social issue that reveal themselves to the work of social workers in PHC through a wide diversity of demands and activities that are developed by the professionals in front of the territory. It concludes by affirming the potential that the territory holds in PHC, especially with regard to the possibilities for the achievement of the work of social workers in this level of care, which have contributed to the realization of social rights and to the confrontation of the expressions of the social issue revealed in PHC through the social health needs existing in the territories of human life.
