One of the ways cities deal with urban forestry is through the municipal plan and the arboreal inventory. Species diversity is fundamental to the understanding of nature. In the urban context analyze tree diversity is necessary to help managers in decision-making, such as plantations, monitoring and management. The objective was to conduct a qualitative and quantitative diagnosis of urban forestry and analyze the diversity of trees at thoroughfares in Natal-RN, in order to propose solutions to problems you might encounter. The study was conducted in Natal-RN city from April to October 2015. Have been 874 cataloged tree specimens, distributed in 54 species (59.26% of exotic origin and 40.74% native). Considering all inventoried avenues, the most abundant species was Licania tomentosa (Benth). Fritsch. (12.1%). Avenida Rodrigues Alves had the highest diversity values (H '= 3.09) and (D (1 / D) = 18.31). While the Street Mossoró is one that presents the lowest values (H '= 0.69) and (D (1 / D) = 1.71). Through analysis phytosanitary of each phytosanitary street, it can be seen that 65% have end condition "regular" 18% "good" and 16% "bad". The type of Phytosanitary procedures were most appropriate pruning and phytosanitary treatment (32%). The analyzed thoroughfares have different diversity of species. It is recommended for specimens are at risk, the phytosanitary treatment for pest control with the use of natural insecticides, maintenance cleaning pruning to remove dead branches, damaged, diseased or infested and the suppression of those specimens that are at high levels pest and injuries and "bad" appearance.
