Objective: to carry out a descriptive and qualitative analysis of hearing aspects and language development, more specifically phonological acquisition, from the perception of those responsible for children with language complaints. Method: descriptive and cross-sectional study. The research sample was for convenience from the selection of patients from the school clinic waiting list, which consists of patients from different speech therapy areas, as follows: Adult (18) and child (295) language, Dysphagia (12), Orofacial Motricity (15) and Voice (190). The target audience of the research were patients who sought care in the area of child language. Results: the based questions on hearing showed the excellent perception of parents regarding the importance of hearing for language development and the presence of recurrent ear infections during childhood. In addition, they demonstrated that in the population studied, there was good coverage in the performance of Neonatal Hearing Screening. The phonological acquisition showed the parents' perception of the presence of alterations in speech development, with a high rate of children who have difficulty in acquiring, mainly, of the phonemes [s], [z], [ʃ], [Ʒ], [l], [ɳ], [ʎ], [ɾ] and [R].
