Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Biblioteconomia) - Departamento de Ciência da Informação, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2024.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/62854This work presents a systematic review on the identification of predatory journals in the context of Library and Information Science. The phenomenon of predatory journals has become a growing concern in the academic community, affecting the integrity of scientific research and the reliability of publications. The main objective of this study is to analyze and synthesize the characteristics, methods, and tools used to identify predatory journals, providing information professionals and researchers with a comprehensive guide to navigate this complex scenario. The methodology employed involved a bibliographic review, as well as a systematic search in relevant databases, such as SciELO, BRAPCI and CAPES Periodicals Portal, using predefined criteria. The results indicate that identifying predatory journals requires a multifaceted approach, considering aspects such as editorial practices, transparency, quality of the peer review process, and impact metrics. Several key indicators were identified, including the absence of clear information on publication fees, obscure review processes, and unrealistic promises of rapid publication. Furthermore, the study reveals the importance of tools and checklists developed by reputable organizations to assist in journal evaluation. It is concluded that continuous education and the development of critical skills among librarians, researchers, and students are fundamental to combat the threat of predatory journals. This work contributes to the existing literature by providing an up-to-date and comprehensive analysis on the topic, highlighting the relevance of the issue for the integrity of scientific communication and the crucial role of information professionals in this context.Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/br/Periódicos predatóriosComunicação científicaBiblioteconomiaIntegridade acadêmicaPublicação científicaCaracterização de periódico predatórios a partir de uma revisão da literaturaCharacterization of predatory journals based on a literature reviewbachelorThesis
