Desenvolvimento de sistema nanoemulsionado de extrato oleoso de urucum (Bixa Orellana L.) para potencial tratamento da eritrodisestesia palmoplantar.Orientador: Arnóbio Antônio da Silva Júnior. 2023. 60f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Farmácia) - Departamento de Farmácia, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2023.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/53812Palmoplantar erythrodysesthesia, also referred to as hand-foot syndrome, is a cutaneous inflammatory adverse event affecting the palms of the hands and soles of the feet, caused by some chemotherapy drugs. Often the most effective treatment against this syndrome is the interruption or reduction of the chemotherapy dose, which can be harmful to the cancer patient. The annatto seed is widely reported for its traditional use and for having components with potential anti-inflammatory effect. Among the bioactive compounds of annatto bixin stands out, the most abundant carotenoid found in the seeds, with its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor properties. That way, the nanoemulsion as active pharmaceutical ingredients administration system is a promising alternative to increase therapeutic efficacy, from the highest penetration and targeting of poorly soluble drugs, increase absorption by the skin, improve retention time of the drug on the target and, eventually, minimization of toxicity and adverse effects. The aim of the study was to obtain and characterize a nanoemulsion with annatto oil extract by low energy technique through phase inversion. The characterization of the nanoemulsified system was done by diameter, Polydispersity Index (PPI) and Zeta Potential (ZP), being the stability was evaluated for 42 days using only the first two parameters mentioned. Nanoemulsions were obtained with an average diameter of 120 nm, PPI of approximately 0.16 characteristic of monodisperse system and ZP demonstrating negative surface charge, around -21 mV. Certainly, it was possible to produce a stable nanoemulsion and characterize it in order to show which co-solvent was assertive for the formulation, the appropriate surfactants and their proper ratios, beyond the appropriate oil concentration.
