Since hydroelectric power stations are the main generators of electricity in the country, there is a need to take measures to minimize waste during energy consumption. In this context, the objective of this work was to evaluate the feasibility of implanting presence sensors in the HVAC system of classrooms in the classroom sector IV of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), aiming at reducing environmental impacts and also the electricity bill, which currently has an average monthly consumption of 133,261.83 kWh only by air conditioners, which is equivalent to an average cost of R$ 63,113.31/month. The total investment required for the implementation of the proposed automation system is R$ 41,734.38 and the payback period for this investment is approximately 10 months, providing an average energy savings of R$ 4,207.55/month or savings in life cycle of R$ 50,490.65/year.
