This research, which is a qualitative approach, intends to answer how the textbook distributed by PNLD works with oral production? To do so, it aims to identify the speaking tasks/activities of the textbook "Diálogo: língua inglesa"; to classify these tasks according to Littlewood's diagram (2004); and to evaluate if the textbook is adequate and if it constitutes a good source for teaching/learning speaking. The theoretical background is based on Paiva's (2007) studies about the English language textbook; on the PNLD (2021) and the BNCC (2018) as documents that rule the curricula of these books; Bygate (2001) and Levelt (1989) about speaking skills; Brown (2000) and Ur (1996) about the teaching of speaking; and Ellis (2009), Prabhu (1987) and Littlewood's (2004) studies about the task-based approach. The analyzed data suggest that in the textbook "Diálogo: língua inglesa" there is a predominance of structured communication type questions, according to the Littlewood's diagram, in which there is a strong presence of focus on the communication of meanings without forgetting the form, thus presenting it as an important source for teaching speaking.Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/br/Livro didático.
