It investigates the actions, policies and investments applied in municipal and state public schools. It also shows a historic and conceptual register about information competency, showing its importance in present days due to the wide amount of information available to students, specially because of the advances in tecnology. It approaches the informational aspects in the educational scenarium, specifically in middle school, once the large amount of information and informational resources interferes in students’ learning and schools must be prepared to mediate the access to it. The research brings also a bibliographical reference based on a study of case, starting from a non probabilistic experiment. It uses as a data collecting instrument a questionary applied on teachers from a municipal and a state school in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The importance of the librarian is approached as well as his interaction with teachers, acting as a mediator between students, teachers and sources of information, thus enhacing learning abilities. It also presents the relevance of School Libraries as an essencial space in school, which contributes significantly to cultural, ethical and civil formation on students.
