University students tend to have a higher risk for physical inactivity and sedentary behavior. The most commonly cited barrier for physical activity is “lack of time”. However, studies have shown that the amount of free time of the general population has been increasing throughout decades. Thus, the problem may not be in the amount of free time, but in how people allocate time. The objective of this study was to analyze the free time allocation patterns for physical and sedentary activities in university students. Eighty-eight university students (66 men and 22 women) participated in this study. Participants answered the following questionnaires: i) Time allocation questionnaire; ii) Global Physical Activity Questionnaire; iii) Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire. Subjects were divided into three groups, according to physical activity level: i) Active; ii) Very Active; iii) Extremely Active. A paired t-test was used to identify statistical differences in sample characterization data, and a one-way ANOVA with Bonferroni’s post-hoc was used to identify statistical differences in data between groups. No statistical differences were observed between groups for any domains of time allocation (Sleep, Free Time, Occupation, Transportation and Home-Based Activities), neither in the amount of time spent in sedentary behavior. The findings of this study indicate that there is no difference in time allocation patterns as weekly physical activity energy expenditure increases, assuming individuals are already physically active.openAccessAlocação de Tempo; Atividades Físicas; Universitários.Time Allocation; Physical Activity; University Students.Alocação de Tempo para Atividades Físicas e Sedentárias em UniversitáriosTime allocation patterns for physical and sedentary activity in university studentsbachelorThesisCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::EDUCACAO FISICA
