Method: this is a documentary, retrospective study, with a quantitative approach, carried out with 28 medical records of patients monitored by a dressing committee at the Hospital Universitário Onofre Lopes. The data were obtained from an instrument created by the researchers with sociodemographic, clinical and assistance information from these users, retrieved from electronic medical records through the Management Application for University Hospitals AGHU and MV2000, based on the contribution of the dressing committee from a computer in the hospital and inserted into Excel software. After that, the data was analyzed using the SPSS application, using the Chi-Square, Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) of UFRN under opinion no. 5,693,518 Results: the study revealed a predominance of male patients (53.6%), of mixed ethnicity (92.9%) and with the absence of a partner (71.4%). Most of them had Diabetes Mellitus (67.9%), peripheral arterial obstructive disease (78.6%) and smoking (75.0%). The most affected region of patients was the transmetatarsal region, with prevalence in the vascular sector and the injuries were characterized as acquired at the institution. Throughout the monitoring of the dressing committee, there was a significant decrease in the markers of infection and inflammation in these patients. Furthermore, it was analyzed that during this period, liquefaction tissues and the exposure of bones, tendons and muscles also showed a decrease, as well as having an influence on the length of follow-up of patients, in the injuries that were identified epiboly, heat and odor. Finally, the predominance of coverings with antimicrobial properties and also with the presence of alginate in their composition was seen. Conclusion: the study allowed us to characterize the profile of users with surgical wound infections monitored by the dressing committee and which factors may be associated with the occurrence of infections.
