Dissertação (Mestrado em Ciências Sociais) - Centro de Ciências Humanas, Letras e Artes, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2025.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/63803This dissertation seeks to analyze how the ideas of academic and activist Angela Yvonne Davis on penal abolitionism are addressed in Brazilian academic productions in the field of human sciences. The research is based on the hypothesis of the unsystematic or still scarce use of Davis in Brazilian academic literature on the subject, despite the growing global interest in Davis's ideas. The study aims to examine the main ideas and concepts of Davis’s penal abolitionism, evaluating how they are interpreted and applied in the Brazilian context, and identifying possible contributions, gaps, and theoretical-analytical complementarities. The dissertation is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter focuses on the central ideas and concepts of Davis’s penal abolitionism. The second chapter analyzes the main trends and debates in Brazilian academic productions on penal abolitionism and the presence of Angela Davis's contributions. The third chapter examines how Davis could contribute to the development of abolitionist ideas in the Brazilian context. This study is relevant for its potential to contribute to the academic debate, and it is expected to inspire new questions and promote critical reflection on current criminal justice practices in Brazil.pt-BRAcesso AbertoAbolicionismo penalAngela DavisProduções acadêmicasCiências humanasAbolicionismo penal no Brasil: uma análise das produções acadêmicas à luz das ideias de Angela DavisPenal abolitionism Brazil: an analysis of acedemic productions in light of Angela Davis' ideasmasterThesisOUTROS::CIENCIAS SOCIAIS
