To verify the causes, consequences and financial impact on Social Security. Having as main reference the years 2012 to 2023. The bibliographic research was developed from scientific articles, reports, books and previously published works. The methodology used was directed to the collection of secondary data of a quantitative nature with the application of descriptive statistics through the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) and publications of the Ministry of Social Security (MPS), and in publications of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The main results found were: black informal workers represent 53.7%, men represent 51.7%, regarding education, 77.2% have no education and 32.9% have completed higher education. In 2022, the number of informal workers was 39.5 million, with a small reduction in 2023 to 39.2 million, this represents 39.1% of the employed population in the country, the annual informality rate, which in 2022 was 39.4%, rose to 39.2% in 2023.
