Specifically, it seeks to assess the social and economic impacts in Brazil resulting from the lack of contribution of informal workers to the social security system in the years 2015, 2017 and 2019. To this end, it was necessary to identify the number of people who are working informally in Brazil and whether they are insured by the General Social Security System, the sociodemographic characteristics of the informal workers who do not contribute to the RGPS, and the financial and social consequences on the social security system of the absence of social security contributions by these workers. For this, a descriptive research with a quantitative approach was carried out, analyzing the Brazilian population in relation to private sector workers, self-employed workers, domestic workers and unpaid workers using the PNAD-Continua as a data source in the period of 2015, 2017 and 2019. In addition, statistical methods were used to simulate the potential amount due, if all those who are in the informal sector were part of the social security insured, in order to verify the economic impacts on the social security system of the lack of social security contribution by this sector. In view of this, it was found that, in the three years observed, the potential collection of contributions by informal workers increased by 18%, 19%, and 20% in 2015, 2017, and 2019, corresponding to R$ 62 billion, R$ 72 billion, and R$ 84 billion, respectively. Thus, it was possible to conclude that the inclusion of informal workers in the social security system plays a significant role in improving the financial sustainability of the system.
