The thrmatic is relevant, considering that the interpretation of texts constitutes one of the main competences yet to be reached in the Brasilian contexto. Cagliari(1999), Freire(1998), Solé(1998), base the arguments about the importance of Reading as a primary activity in communication, as well as the strategies used for Reading comprehension for the formation of na active reader. The results presentede here wereobtained from na observatin, in a class of the 1°st year ofelementary school, about the Reading strategies used by the teacher and how they contribute to the development of the reading ability os the student.
