Objective: To characterize hospital admissions, deaths and the mortality rate from COPD in Brazilian adults according to sex, age and region of residence in Brazil, between 2008 and 2019. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study, using secondary data on hospitalizations, deaths and mortality rates from the Hospital Information System of the Unified Health System (SIH/SUS), where the collection was carried out in the period from September 2023 , a descriptive analysis of the results was subsequently carried out, using arithmetic mean and percentage. Results and discussion: 1,355,569 hospitalization records were observed. The highest number of hospitalizations was in males (n= 713,904), the highest incidence was in the South region (n=488,501), followed by the Southeast (n= 452,428) and higher data in the age group of 70 to 79 years (n= 400,524). There were 99,226 deaths and a mortality rate of 7.3/100 hospitalizations, the highest death records and rate were in males (n=56,522 and 7.9/100), the rate and deaths stood out in the Southeast region (n= 42,505 and 9.4/100) and the age group ≥ 80 (n=34,144 and 11.8/100) had important repercussions. Final considerations: The study analyzed hospitalizations and deaths due to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in Brazil between 2008 and 2019, revealing significant trends that reflect the severity of this public health condition. During the period, 1,355,569 hospitalizations were recorded, with a recommendation for a 29.6% reduction in hospitalizations. However, the mortality rate remained high, with 99,226 deaths, resulting in a mortality rate of 7.3 per 100 hospitalizations.Attribution 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/br/DPOCCOPDhospitalizaçãomortalidadehospitalizationmortalityInternações hospitalares e mortalidade por doença pulmonar obstrutiva crônica em adultos brasileiros de acordo com dados secundáriosHospital admissions and mortality from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in brazilian adults according to secondary databachelorThesis
