The factors that cause what is categorized as "failure" are associated with both the problems of the university, as the personal issues. The objective of this work is to identify, from the perspective of the students, the main factors that provoke the academic failure in the students of the course of Accounting Sciences of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. Regarding the methodology, this study is classified as a descriptive research, based on a quantitative and qualitative analysis. The method used was the survey, the data for the research were obtained through a questionnaire applied directly to the students of the course of accounting sciences. The research was carried out with students from the 4th to the 8th semester, approximately, obtaining a sample of 73 answers to analyze the data. From the analysis of the answers obtained, it will be shown that the main factors for avoidance are the frustration that the course does not exceed expectations; the time to reconcile work and class and the lack of encouragement of teachers.
