Methods: This is an integrative literature review carried out using the SciELO, LILACS, PubMed/Medline and BVS electronic data sources in August and September 2024. Included were studies available in full text format, freely accessible in electronic media, in Portuguese and English, published between 2015 and 2024, which contributed to elucidating the object of study. Results: Seven studies were analysed, which identified the importance of nurses in screening, early identification and appropriate management of diabetes, seeking to minimise complications, reduce hospitalisations and promote a better prognosis. In addition, nurses play an important role in the health education of people with DM, with objctive to carrying out foot hygiene care out foot hygiene care, adopting a healthy diet and maintaining adequate glycaemic control.
