The aim of this study was to investigate the factors that influence the choice of Family and Community Medicine by students from Sertão do Rio Grande do Norte. This is an exploratory research, with data collection through the application of a semistructured questionnaire with 23 undergraduate students from the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th periods, ensuring representativeness of each period of the internship. The results portray the analysis of the responses of the 23 medical students interviewed, according to a questionnaire with 17 questions. The majority of the sample is male, half of the students are 25 years old or younger and only 25% of the students are over 27 years old and 60.87% come from a private school. As for the geographic origin of the students, 82.61% come from the interior of a state and 17.39% from the metropolitan region and 95.65% were admitted to the university through some inclusion policy of the federal government. The results of the study demonstrate that students who choose Family and Community Medicine do so because of personal convictions, which may have an influence on the course's pedagogical project, but also have previous roots in the students' life history. The research is relevant for being unprecedented, contributing to possible adjustments in the Multicampi School of Medical Sciences and it is hoped that this study will inspire others interested in the field of MFC, so that they can contribute to the choice of MFC as a career so that the specialty can conquer each more space in the Brazilian health scenario.Acesso AbertoMedicina de família e comunidadeEducação médicaEstudantes de MedicinamasterThesis
